iPhone to HTC One
I thought I'd write a little post about my ever so slightly weird transition moving from using an iPhone for the last few years to an HTC One.
It all started when I moved house..
Basically without going into massive details, I didn't get any signal, like absolutely nothing. It was almost like there was a forcefield around the house, I could walk up to my door and everything would be fine. Step into my house and I would see 'No Signal' on the phone :(
I checked all the networks coverage maps and low and behold, there is a gap in the map, just the right size to fit right above my house... Look..
That grey square in the middle, that's where my house is, and it says 'Outdoors only'. Anyway, all of the networks showed similar.
The story goes like this, I sent my phone back and cancelled out of my contract. I decided to go with the same network as my partner as she somehow gets full signal. However I didn't see the point in getting an iPhone again "Pfff, Why?" Good question, well when I was going for a reset and wipe before sending the phone back, I checked and closed my last apps that I used, Google Keep, Google Drive, Gmail, Chrome, Calendar, Google+, Google.. you get the idea right?
Why get tied into an operating system where I don't use any of the juicy OS features? Didn't use iCloud etc. It was sort of clear that I should really use an Android phone, but I was a little afraid to be honest. iOS has been a breeze to own, zero problems.
I went all out and bought my self an HTC One, when setting up, I logged in with my Google account and BOOM, all my bits were ready, no email setup or logging into each separate Google program. I was well chuffed :D The HTC One was also a breeze to use.. phew!
This is where the weird bit comes into this whole transition, I haven't done anything different than what I did with my iPhone, granted I only have to login once for apps and I don't have to look after 'Application Specific Passwords' but.. I still don't use any major features of the Android OS. I haven't added any widgets of use (y'know the ones you think would be awesome to have on an iPhone). I haven't rooted or rom'd the phone, changed the launcher etc.. "Good lord man why not?" another good question, simply I haven't needed to. I unlock my phone, and open up either Google Keep, Google Drive, Gmail... You've read that before somewhere!
Maybe time will tell, at the moment I'm happy with the move, I just thought it would have given me more making the move, hey, maybe Google have done too much of a good job with their cloud services that it doesn't matter what OS your phone has.
In conclusion, I'm a big fan of the HTC One and Google's Android.
I'm also a big fan of the iPhone and Apple's iOS.
At least no-one can call me a fanboy.
